Nob Hill does not refer to any legal boundary. The moniker was put forth by Col. DKB Sellers when he envisioned a shopping center at Central Ave. and Carlisle Blvd. because the incline up Carlisle Blvd to the south reminded him of Nob Hill in San Francisco.
The name was adopted by the people in the area when they formed their neighborhood association in 1987 with the boundaries below. In common use today it refers to the six automobile-oriented residential subdivisions within those boundaries which were developed between 1916 and 1945 within a half mile of the 1947 Nob Hill Shopping Center. The inhabitants of the area are known for their fondness for the well-preserved architecture of their houses and businesses.
